New York (Color) I Love You!

Discovered something even cooler than Nails Inc.......New York Colour! Why wear a nail colour named after a street in London when you can get ones named after parts of NYC? Pus they're wayyyyyy cheaper.

I'm wearing Manhattan right now....

Stupidly AMAZING shoes

It's been a fabulous shoe season and I am going to be super-sad when the weather gets warmer and we have to wear sandals and...pumps and...flipflops. Not that that stops some people *walks past Jack Wills, vomits*.
But while it's still cold I am going to wear heavy duty, hardcore gorgeous boots and shoe-boots every day (one my many fashion new year resolutions, but more on those later). Remember these?

Ah they are so fabulous. And now.....

Aren't they a scream? It was a bit too early for me to be smiling (although I don't really do smiling) but I was superhappy in my shoes. Working the whole layering thing with my Gap shorts and a River Island drapey wrap that everyone seems to covet.

Stupid Shoes

It's a busy ol' time of year, blog fans. A busy time of year which both obstructs my posting (numerous relatives, so much good telly, food, lots of food) and provides me with ample opportunity to showcase my wardrobe.

Ooooooh. Talllllll. And surprisingly, not that painful. Ok, coming down stairs is a bit tricky, and since I live on a hill I will be using a Zimmerframe to get down it from now on.
But it's so worth it. Plus dontcha just love that rolled over sock-like bit?
And my shiny new purple bedspread, which my rats are probably chewing huge holes in as we speak.
My latest pair from Kurt (we love Kurt), bought in Harrods just so I could have the bag :) I must find that bag....

In my room, slightly messy at this point as I was still moving remnants of present-wrapping and making my second photoboard (which I spent this evening trying to hang, hitting my finger with a hammer and making lots of holes in my wall in the process). I was going for warmth and layering, so dug out this long shrug-type thing. It's not black! It's not grey! Progress!

Bad Santa

No, not you Billy-Bob.
Just opened my stocking, and strangely enough, Santa did not give me any of my desired gifts.
I am sad.

But next year I will be fabulously rich and will buy myself all the Acne, McQueen, Wang and Gucci I could ever want.
Plus there's a gorgeous little McQueen necklace in Harvey Nichols that I might just be buying....

RedHead's Christmas

I've learned just how depressing it is to have a birthday so close to Christmas - the smallest pile of loot ever!
Thankfully I consoled myself while my family unwrapped gargantuan boxes usually reserved for small children at Toys R Us with my festive, erm, trimmings.

Check me out in my newly refurbed room - I'm so proud! Painted it and bought the new purple bedsheets so I don't have to pose self-consciously on the landing any more.
I'm wearing what I intended to be 'the Poppy Lifton' look, circa episode 'Remains of the J' in Season 2 Gossip Girl. Poppy wears a big furry gilet, like mine (only probably actual fur, real fur, and Armani) with a loose-necked rollneck grey sweater. I went for a black polo neck, my grey jeans, and my new knee-high leather boots. Aren't they fab? My boyfriend laughed at me when I tried on some OTKs so I settled for these. Until he doesn't come shopping with me...mwahahaha.
So, I'm calling this look 'The Poppy Lifton Puss in Boots'. Panto, at Christmas? How fitting.
Went to church today for the first time in ever to watch my brother sing, so looked both warm and cool in church. And am taller than both my parents in these boots :)
Merry Christmas!

Have a holly jolly Christmas!

It's been a busy old time of year, blog fans. I've been so busy at Christmas parties, birthday parties and shopping (sadly, waitressing, I made my own cake and buying other peoples' presents...mostly) I haven't had time for any solid blogging! Again all I can do is solemnly swear that I will recommence post-Xmas. I've got so many new pairs of shoes to show you!
In the meantime I live you with a picture of the Dior tree at Claridges, and wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

RIP Brittany

So I was already depressed by the fact that some noisy shouting men are at Number One and that we have no snow...

Awwww Brittany. You were so awesome. Hope you've gone to a fabulous black-and-white place in the sky.

'Also known as Mecca, where I belong.'

One day, one day....
I lived in my Kurt Geiger 'Spike' boots while in London - noisy as hell but it did mean that my boyfriend could always find me in Topshop or if I wandered off in the tube stations, and so comfy! And my huge dead animal, aka my fluffy gilet. Totally worth it.
And we had SNOW! Best pre-birthday treat ever!
But now, pretty much everywhere but where I am has it. Boo.

BAD Blogger

Apologies for having dropped off the radar for a while - end of term at work, busy few days of Christmas parties then birthday trip to London courtesy of my boyfriend has taken up my time :) More posts, photos and fashion porn to come after tomorrow, when I am the other side of 22!

PS I saw the Gucci oilslick bag. I held it. I put it on my arm.
So near...and yet so far...

My life is complete - Gossip Girl fashion

Like everyone else, I sat glued to the TV for Gossip Girl, to see Lady Gaga's performance, and to see the aftermath of last week's threesome.
But, for me, the most exciting bit of the episode came in the form of Jenny, as per usual, and, as per usual, her outfit choice. Now, I don't have a picture of her in it, but I do have....

See what I mean when I say my life (and that of many other fashionistas who can't afford high end) is complete.
Excuse the gormless goth expression - believe it or not, I was dashing off to church. Yes, this was my idea of carol service-appropriate attire. (I left the black lippie - Mac in Cyber - at home though. I'm really into gold lippie atm.)
I also love the boots I'm wearing - good ol' Office - they are super comfy and very simple so go with everything. I don't cycle in them though, but I have a large enough bag to put sensible cycling shoes in, so nothing is off limits at work now!
But yes, I finally do look EXACTLY like Little J. Except I am Slightly Larger, Shorter and with Shorter Legs, Ginger J. (Though let's face it, EVERYONE is slightly larger, shorter and with shorter legs than Taylor M. Bitch.)
PS Credit to my mum, who told me to buy the dress in the first place. I didn't at first, then decided I loved it, sent my boyfriend trawling Topshop for it, then eventually tracked it down myself. Worth it.

I wonder if Santa reads my blog - RedHead's Christmas Wishlist

Ah the joy of having a birthday so close to Christmas. At around the same time as the world of fashion drops its most beautiful pieces/festive discounts, lil old me is turning old. Well, 22, which didn't seem to hurt Lily Allen.
But either way, it's cause for a celebration as I thus get a double whammy of festive joy opening the presents around the tree! (We put the tree up before my birthday) Unfortunately, I cannot quite bring myself to ask for all the things I really want, as I know full well my parents would just laugh and say 'that's lovely dear, how about a nice book?' (and in case you're wondering, Alex Box's 'The Makeup Artist') when I ask for some Erickson Beamon jewellery or a pair of Marc by Marcs. But a girl can dream.
And since I know my mum still checks my blog, here is my ultimate dream present list. It will get updated over time....

Acne Atacoma Wedges - yum yum yum.

Marc Jacobs 'Don't Fret My Pet' T-shirt - because doesn't the girl on it remind you of Violet from The Incredibles? And I love that film.

Gucci bag - because it's GORGEOUS.

Butler and Wilson rose necklace - I saw this is a shoot with The Times that featured a whole variety of animals posing/being placed in among pieces of jewellery. They had a sad-looking (but they have such big eyes that they always look sad) bassett hound wearing this. If I wore it, I would not be sad.

Luella 'Amy' (left) or 'Polly' (right) dress - I saw the Amy one on Alexa Chung (surprise surprise) in Glamour and loved it. The Polly one less so, but it reminds me of a St Trinian's uniform.

A piece of Christopher Kane's 2010 Resort Collection.

Alexander Wang boots (and the ability to walk in them. Or rather, that miraculous ability rich girls and Carrie Bradshaw have to walk in zero-support high shoes and not wince in pain after half an hour pounding pavements. Maybe I should just wish for car service)

Alexander Wang 'Coco' Bag. No explanation needed.
Dominic Jones ring. I've been meaning to do a post about this guy for ages - the Alexander Wang of the jewelry world, his designs ooze attitude yet craftsmanship, and aren't that expensive! (When compared to Harry Winston or Erikson Beamon.)
Louis Vuitton Lace Detail Dress - because it's BEAUTIFUL. Look at the colours!

Maybe time for some colour...

Was browsing my favourite blogs and spotted Nana of Nanainwonderland in a lovely navy version of a grey rollneck sweater I have.
And I think it might be time to get in on this trend for navy.
Whoa. Deep breaths. COLOUR!
Scary thought.
Worryingly, I'm now obsessed with the colour (as in have become, in the last two minutes) and have to go to sleep or find myself jiggling my foot until I can go to town and buy something navy.
See, I have problems.
I will listen to the 'True Blood' score and look out at the mist to calm myself down.

Size Matters

For the first time in my blogging career (all those many months) I was genuinely interested, Carrie Bradshaw-style, in questions raised by a piece of feedback I received. Not that I don't love all feedback received (keep commenting you lovely people!) but this piece co-incided with my latest letter to Grazia; a comment on the Size Zero debate.
The article I commented on took pity on the latest model to look like she actually eats who is now being hounded by the world that pays attention to fashion for getting fat, for looking pregnant, and for generally not looking like a starving pre-pubescent. I would have HATED to be Jourdan Dunn when she confirmed she was actually pregnant. My response to the article (which I hope will be included next week) was that it's the attitude of cruel, bitchy bloggers and anonymous commetors that make this standard of beauty acceptable, not the fashion editors. If a thin model finally getting a healthy BMI does not prompt the response 'Thankyou, a healthy example for us and our daughters!' but 'OMG get to the gym you lazy fatso! Where's your sense of pride?' where on earth is the incentive for fashion editors to put in photos of larger models?
And at the same time as I was thinking this, I discovered a response to my post on Freja Beha. Feel free to read it below.
First off, I was really appreciative of the viewpoint, and my animosity towards anonymous bloggers is not aimed at this person, who responds in the way that we are meant to, or would all think we would respond to pictures of healthy models vs thin models. The writer says that they don't appreciate the choice of model as she looks so thin in her photos, and implores me as a blogger independent of the agendas of fashion editors (thus far) to make my own judgement about what beauty really entailed.
In short, I could have chosen a healthier-looking girl.
The writer was correct; I could indeed have chosen a la Mark Fast. But the simple truth is, I think Freja Beha has a beautiful face. A face that, like a waif-thin body, cannot be replicated elsewhere and is thus totally unique. I think Kate Moss has inspired the thought in us all that anyone, if they give up eating for long enough, can be as thin as Freja, but not everyone can have her face. Cosmetic surgeons really can't work those kind of miracles.
And while I'm at it, I would like to challenge all those who DO champion plus-sized models over thinner models. Are we really looking at their faces, or are we looking at the fact that they are not size zeros? The majority of tiny models have identical ironing-board bodies, but it's their uniquely beautiful faces that have put them on the map. I just hope that all those crusaders who are caught up in the 'normal women' crusade don't forget that it's not just about the BMI.
PS That letter did go into Grazia.

Yay it's December! A few fashion vows.

Happy December blog fans! I was thrilled like a small thrilled thing when I woke up to the first true frost of the season (god, it's taken ages!) and was de-icing my car with fervour.
But thus far December only brings sad news. A little bird has told me that I might have to start wearing uniform at work! The injustice, blog fans, the cruelty! Apparently Health and Safety dictates I wear a voluminous blue blouse, which, I might add, is sleeveless for added hypothermia, and plain black trousers and FLATS! FLATS!
Naturally I will be protesting against this injustice. But, thankfully, it's only a few short days until term ends and I can wear whatever I like.
One thing I will not be wearing, however.....

It's taken me long enough to get round to slating this designer (David Koma) and I assure you it's not just because Cheryl Cole was the one to put him on the fashion map. But look at these dresses! Just look at them! They look like the kind of D &T experiment made by some Year 9s with a glue gun, a bin bag and a lot of Slinkies. When are you supposed to wear them? The only place I can think of them being appropriate is to the fictional 'Derelicte' show in Zoolander.
Another thing I am terrified of seeing in the shop windows is the puffa jacket, which has made a comeback in recent weeks. Yes, sure, they look lovely and warm, and I don't doubt that a full-length black puffa with a fur-trimmed hood would look fab being trotted around the frozen streets of NYC by an Evangelista, a Campbell or a Bunchen. But not by you or me. We'd just look like chavs, or six-year-olds.
Although tis the weather to comfort-dress, I re-assert to myself that I will never ever wear anything sheepskin-lined (Ugg boots) no matter how cold it gets, mainly because my pediatrist would kill me.
But having seen a Hilfiger Denim purple brocade 'skater girl' skirt in this week's Grazia Top Ten, I'm looking forward to getting my American Apparel replica out. Along with dresses, thick tights, and my leg warmers. Relax, they're not neon or anything.
