The Week That Was: A Jacket Thing

I'm like a shark - I can't sit still for too long or I'll die. And the directions I take with these posts is no exception. Looking back over a week's worth of outfits I loved or just liked isn't half as much fun as I thought it would be when they're all boiled down to a reel of wonky-angled images in the same backdrop. Maybe it's time to start shooting these outside again...But I just lose the love for the looks as soon as they hit the camera reel and I imagine the feeling translates. So this week, I'm going to collate the last few outfits into one as they all follow a similar theme...

YEP! Aside from my face looking extra-surly/confused this week, there's a whole lot of jacket going on (and bright patterned top and pleated Topshop skirt...)

Spring has apparently officially sprung and while it's still bloody freezing outside, the days where we can relegate the big coats and rely on thinner layers are nearly here. So here's a rundown of the types of jacket that should grace every wardrobe for springtime...

The Denim Jacket

(Jacket and skirt: Topshop; Top: ASOS; Trainers: Adidas; Bag; Marc by Marc Jacobs; Jewellery: Thomas Sabo; Brooch: Black Heart Creatives; Belt: old)

It took me far too long to get into the denim jacket game until I finally cracked last spring and got two - this light wash lightweight one was perfect for throwing over summer dresses and it works perfectly not at adding a grunge edge layered under a tailored coat. Combined with one of my trusty lipstick brooches (the NUMBER of complements I got on these in New York) from Black Heart Creatives, it's the perfect way to add a spring twist to your staple winter outfit.

The Structured Jacket

(Jacket, belt and jeans: ASOS; Top and boots: Topshop; Bag: Cambridge Satchel Company; Brooch: Black Heart Creatives; Jewellery: Bendels)

Awful photo aside, this lime green jacket and its matching trousers (brace yourselves) were on my ASOS wishlist for quite some time. It's a stiffer fabric than its lookalike pink Topshop equivalent that you've seen here before and is the epitome of 'statement' colour.

The Casual Jacket

(Jacket: Topshop; Top: H&M; Trousers: ASOS; Trainers: Adidas: Bag: Cambridge Satchel Company; Jewellery: Bendels; Brooch: Black Heart Creatives)

Accidentally wearing green for St Patricks Day! But this military-esque jacket was an impulse buy back when military chic came back around (it'll be back next year I'm sure) and is far more versatile than I first thought. It's great with paler denim and if I was ever a white shirt girl this would be perfect over the top.

The OTT Jacket

(Jacket: Shrimps; Coat: Zara; Shirt: Dorothy Perkins; Skirt: Topshop; Boots: ASOS; Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs)

Oh Shrimps, how I love thee (even though a relative actually said this jacket was hideous - I know I'm on the right track then!). Even the most sensible wardrobe needs a ludicrous item and if this jacket isn't it I don't know what is. Playing perfectly into the eccentricity trend for this season and also conveniently lightweight enough to fit under coats.

The Sleeveless Jacket

(Jacket, top and belt: ASOS; Culottes: Forever 21; Bag: vintage; Shoes: Topshop; Watch: Michael Kors)

Ok sort-of cheating...but a longline sleeveless jacket is a godsend to cover all manner of sins...temperature, tight trousers you're not sure about, just making an old outfit look a little more interesting...It instantly smartens up whatever you throw it over.

The Lightweight Coat

(Coat: Zara; Jacket, skirt, shirt and boots: Topshop; Belt: ASOS; Bag: vintage; Watch: Michael Kors)

Welllll it's not quite spring yet is it? Also I was very pleased with this Gucci-esque outfit inspired by Karen at Where Did U Get That. Now if I can just get my hands on one of those bags...
